The 2021 NFL Draft could very well be the draft the KC Chiefs look to move down. While it’s not been in Brett Veach’s nature to move back, it certainly should be something the Chiefs consider.

Brett Veach loves to talk about being aggressive, but his biggest failures are often the moves he makes when he’s trying to be aggressive. This is not the draft, at least not with this Kansas City Chiefs team, to move up. This is the time for this team to look at moving back in the draft.

Teams that are successful for a long time are the teams that understand the true value of the draft, which is to find extremely affordable roster depth, allowing roster financial flexibility while also providing the opportunity to find real potential legitimate contributors.

If, as a team, you want to overpay for Frank Clark, you have to find contributors like  L’Jarius Sneed, Byron Pringle, and Nick Allegretti to help balance the payroll.

If the Chiefs want to find a left tackle in the NFL Draft, it won’t be at No. 31 with the names that are being mentioned. The top players at offensive tackle in the draft often get selected at the top of the draft, which is the case for other positions as well. However, at times, an opportunity presents itself and this draft, for the Chiefs, the opportunity is Stanford’s Walker Little. He’s who we’ll start with on my list of contributors.

Walker Little, OT (Stanford)

Walker Little was an elite offensive tackle recruit and was an instant success in Palo Alto. Entering the 2019 season as a junior, Little was viewed as a potential top 15 draft pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, an knee injury during the season opener would result in him missing the rest of the 2019 season. He returned to Stanford only to deal with, initially, the cancelation of the Pac12 season. Little opted out of the season.

Little has had a full year to recover from a knee injury, and while he is not likely ready to start from the first day he shows up, he very potentially could take over the job during his rookie season as he works back into game shape and form. No question, if he hits as a prospect, Walker Little offers the best opportunity to fix the left tackle spot for the Chiefs in the 2021 NFL Draft.
