Draft Prospects KC Chiefs Could Trade Up For

Pat Freiermuth, TE (Penn State)

The Chiefs need another pass catcher.

With Sammy Watkins off to Baltimore and Mecole Hardman showing a lack of development, the Chiefs were forced to bring back Demarcus Robinson (still shouldn’t have). The Chiefs need another dependable target still. Perhaps, instead of targeting a receiver such as LSU’s Terrace Marshall early, they look at moving up in the second for Penn State tight end Pat Freiermuth.

Freiermuth is the best combo tight end in the draft (blocking+pass catching), though Brevin Jordan isn’t far behind. Adding another tight end and using two tight ends as opposed to a fullback could help create mismatches in the passing game and help ‘reinforce’ the offensive line.’

Travis Kelce also is not getting any younger, and while it’s not time yet, the Chiefs likely have an idea when it’s time to move on. Pat Freiermuth is a similar prospect to Kelce coming out of college and I’m not saying he’s going to be just like Kelce, but merely that he has the potential to do many of the same things.

We all know how much Patrick Mahomes loves throwing the football to Kelce, so just imagine how elated he’d to have a similar player to target on the field. Adding Freiermuth to this offense would be unfair to the rest of the league.
