KC Chiefs: Five remaining free agents who could help in 2021
Free agents who could help KC Chiefs – Alejandro Villanueva
Initially, I had T.Y. Hilton listed here, but he’s now off the market. The Chiefs need a left tackle and there are really only two decent options remaining in free agency with Alejandro Villanueva being one of them.
While Villanueva wouldn’t be the long-term answer at left tackle, what he offers is durability. The former Steelers left tackle played in all 16 regular-season games in five straight seasons and obviously, health has been an issue for the Chiefs when it comes to the offensive line.
Chiefs fans wouldn’t be thrilled about Villanueva coming to Kansas City, but they’re running out of options to sign at left tackle.
Free agents who could help KC Chiefs – Russell Okung
This one is tricky. If healthy, Russell Okung is a very good left tackle, but the problem is that he hasn’t been able to stay healthy the past two years, appearing in just 13 games during that time. The Chiefs desperately need a veteran left tackle for the 2021 season and Okung is the best still available on the free-agent market.
What the Chiefs are going to have to ask themselves is if it’s worth the risk of paying Okung a decent chunk of change with his recent injury history? It won’t be an easy question to answer, obviously, but with the better options at the position now off the board, Kansas City might not have a choice but to bring Okung in as their next left tackle.
Okung and Villanueva are two very different options as far as injuries are concerned. Will the Chiefs opt to bring either of them in?
What do you think, Chiefs fans? Would you be okay with the team signing any of these players?
