Free agents who could help KC Chiefs – Geno Atkins

Arguably the best remaining free agent, Geno Atkins is hitting free agency for the first time in his career after having spent the entirety of his career with the Bengals. Atkins, who turns 33 in late March, only appeared in eight games in 2020 and didn’t record any sacks for the first time in his career.

That being said, he’s just two seasons removed from a season in which he had 10.5 sacks and is good against the run. Atkins probably isn’t going to be a monster in the pass-rushing department like he once was, but joining a defense like the Chiefs’ could be beneficial for him. The Chiefs also need talent on defense and Atkins is a very good player with a lot of experience.

Free agents who could help KC Chiefs – Jadeveon Clowney

While several years younger than Atkins, Jadeveon Clowney is another player who looks to be past his prime. Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, has played for three different teams in each of the last three seasons and his numbers have been declining.

Clowney is still young though. He’s 28 years old and the potential is still there for him to be a serviceable option on defense. Another appealing factor with Clowney is the price, as Spotrac has his market value at just $6.5 million this year.

Yes, there’s a reason why he’d come at a bargain rate, but if the Chiefs brought Clowney in, the worst that can happen is he doesn’t play all that well. The best-case scenario is that they get him for pennies and he turns back into that player who we saw destroy playmakers at South Carolina and during his time with the Texans.
