Slowing down Alvin Kamara won’t be an easy task for the KC Chiefs’ defense.
The Kansas City Chiefs‘ defense has struggled recently and they’re most definitely going to have their work cut out for them when they face Alvin Kamara and the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon. Kamara isn’t just a tremendous running back, he’s also someone who can make defenses pay as a pass catcher and that’s going to be a challenge for the Chiefs.
To this point of the season, Kamara has run the ball 154 times for 723 yards and found the end zone 10 times. He’s also hauled in 77 receptions for 699 yards and four touchdowns, giving him a total of 1,422 yards from scrimmage. The dude is a monster and he has a chance to have a huge game against the Chiefs defense.
Kamara is already the Saints’ best offensive weapon, but now with Michael Thomas being out for this game, expect the Saints to lean on Kamara even more. The Chiefs haven’t been great against the run this season and the last time they faced a running back to that of Kamara’s level, it didn’t go well, as Christian McCaffrey went off for 151 total yards from scrimmage.
Alvin Kamara has a chance to put up insane numbers against the KC Chiefs.
Drew Brees is back under center for the Saints this week. This likely means that New Orleans will be trying to dump the ball off for short passes and Kamara is most definitely going to be the guy Brees looks for in those situations. Kamara is someone who can do a lot of damage after the catch, totaling 9.1 yards per reception.
Normally with running backs, the easiest way to take them out of the game is to get a big lead — something the KC Chiefs are good at — but it’s not that simple with Kamara because of how dominant he is as a pass-catcher. Yes, the Chiefs need to get off to a big lead, but that won’t completely remove Kamara from this game, as Brees is still frequently going to look in his direction.
I’ll be interested to see what kind of game Kamara has against Kansas City. On the one hand, he could absolutely go for 100+ yards from scrimmage against this struggling defense, but on the other hand, maybe the Chiefs bottle him up well, but that then allows another Saints offensive playmaker to have a big afternoon.
How do you see the Chiefs defense faring against Alvin Kamara in the Big Easy on Sunday?
