Kansas City Chiefs: Getting to know the Miami Dolphins before Week 14
Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores – Mandatory Credit: Kevin Wexler-USA TODAY Sports /

Who wins in a fight–Flores or Andy Reid?

Brian: “Flores. The dude is a freaking monster and he showed that last week when he left the bench to call-out [head coach] Zac Taylor of the Bengals following another hit on Jakeem Grant during a punt. He was the first person off the Dolphins bench after the second infraction.”

Miami ranks No. 2 in the league in scoring defense. What player, or players, have been most key to that success?

Brian: “Kyle Van Noy is having a great year and so is Ogbah but the entire defense is playing great football when it comes to takeaways. They feed off each other and because of that, they are scoring points.”

The Dolphins’ offense ranks 28th in yards and 16th in points. What needs to happen for them to score enough points to hang with the Chiefs?

Brian: “Against the Cardinals, the Dolphins were able to win a shootout. I’m not sure they can remotely come close to doing the same against the Chiefs. The Dolphins offense needs the defense to put themselves in a position to keep it close. The problem is [offensive coordinator] Chan Gailey tends to go into clock management too early. They can’t do that this week. If they are going to win, the Dolphins need to sustain drives and keep the defense off the field and Mahomes on the sideline”

It’s only been a dozen games, but in your opinion, did Miami make the right call in taking Tua Tagovailoa over Justin Herbert?

Brian: “Tough to say. Personally, Herbert was my number two in the draft, behind Joe Burrow. He is everything I thought he would be in the NFL. He is having a great season and there is no reason to think he will regress. That being said, if Miami had taken Herbert over Tua, I’m not sure we are seeing anything different from him in Miami. The Dolphins are bringing Tua along slowly and they would have taken the same approach with any QB.”

Lastly, what’s your pick in the game? What teams win and by what score?

Brian: “I would love to say the Dolphins will win but it should be another Chiefs victory. I would guess Miami loses 35-21.”
