Does Madden think the Kansas City Chiefs will defeat the Carolina Panthers?

Week 9 brings us a match-up between the Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers, which will be the first game against the NFC South for the Chiefs this year. A lot has changed since the last time these two teams played, as the Chiefs hadn’t drafted Patrick Mahomes yet and the Panthers still had Cam Newton at quarterback.

Carolina was coming off a Super Bowl appearance when the two met up in 2016 while the Chiefs are coming off a Super Bowl victory this time around. Since that Super Bowl appearance, the Panthers have fallen off and are rebuilding, but that doesn’t mean they won’t just roll over and let the Chiefs kick their butt.

Before we get into what Madden predicts for this game, let’s take a look at how its simulation for Chiefs/Jets went. The video game had Kansas City winning it by 17 points and Mahomes not throwing for about half of what he actually did throw for vs the Jets. The run game didn’t play as well as Madden anticipated, but that’s because New York made it a point to focus on the run.

Now, let’s get to this week’s simulation!

Final Score: Chiefs 29, Panthers 31

CHIEFS

  • Patrick Mahomes – 26 of 45, 294 yards, TD, 2 INT
  • Le’Veon Bell – 9 carries, 63 yards, 2 TD
  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire – 8 carries, 22 yards; 1 rec, 13 yards, TD
  • Mecole Hardman – 8 rec, 124 yards
  • Travis Kelce – 8 rec, 67 yards
  • Demarcus Robinson – 5 rec, 56 yards
  • Anthony Hitchens – 15 tackles; 0.5 sacks
  • Frank Clark – 1.5 sacks
  • Derrick Nnadi – Sack

PANTHERS

  • Teddy Bridgewater – 15 of 21, 170 yards, T; 4 carries, 8 yards, TD
  • Christian McCaffrey – 26 carries, 102 yards, TD
  • Mike Davis – 9 carries, 36 yards, TD
  • DJ Moore – 4 rec, 48 yards
  • Chris Manhertz – 3 rec, 34 yards, TD
  • Tahir Whitehead – 11 tackles
  • Shaq Thompson – INT
  • Jeremy Chinn – INT

The game was tied at 14 heading into the half and once the Panthers gained control in the third quarter, they never looked back. Kansas City kept it close, but the Panthers held on to win their fourth game of the season and hand the reigning Super Bowl champions their second loss of 2020.

According to Madden, Hardman is going to have his first 100+ yard receiving game in his career while the Panthers do a nice job limiting Tyreek Hill. Bell has the bigger rushing game, finding the end zone twice, but Edwards-Helaire scores a receiving touchdown.

McCaffrey has a huge game in his first appearance since Week 2 and this wouldn’t surprise anyone. The video game has both him and Davis playing well at Arrowhead on Sunday and with how poorly the Chiefs defense has played against the run, it wouldn’t surprise me to see these two guys have big games.

Hopefully Madden is wrong with this projection and the Kansas City Chiefs can move to 8-1 before their bye week in Week 10!
