Sit of the Week: Mike Davis, RB, Carolina Panthers

This one is a little risky, and it could totally come back to bite me looking back at this time next week. McCaffrey looms large in this game, but even if he doesn’t play, I am not super excited at playing Mike Davis.

The Falcons may have a terrible defense, but that is because they are bleeding yards through the air. They are middle of the pack in fantasy points allowed to running backs, but that number is slightly misleading because a lot of that damage comes through the air as well.

This game could become a shootout, which means that the wide receivers are going to be used heavily in the pass game. The run may get abandoned  all together if both teams need start putting up points to keep up. Davis may get a touchdown here to save his day, but I don’t anticipate him getting a ton of work on the ground.

Past the fact that the game script may not be in Davis’ favor, Davis himself has underwhelmed over the last few weeks. Since exploding on to the scene after stepping in for McCaffrey, Davis has cooled off over the last two weeks.

Davis had a three game stretch where he scored at least 20 fantasy points, but he hasn’t reached that number in the last two weeks COMBINED. The light may be fading fast on Davis, and his best fantasy days are probably behind him.
