Nebraska Football: Three things to watch vs Ohio State in Week 1
Quarterback Situation
Adrian Martinez won the starting quarterback job over Luke McCaffrey and it’s a big decision for this program to make. Martinez was once a highly coveted quarterback, but his shaky sophomore season made others rethink their opinions on him. McCaffrey, on the other hand, came in to play in limited snaps and looked good, so naturally fans were wanting to see him given a chance.
Martinez doesn’t have the hype surrounding him this year, but that might work out better for him. It takes some pressure off of him, which wasn’t the case last year when some had pegged him as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate.
I’ll be curious to see how Martinez does in his first game of the season. It’s not going to be an easy go of it, as he’ll have a really stingy Buckeyes defense coming after him all day long. If he’s able to put up points and make plays both through the air and with his legs, fans will have hope that this season could turn out decently.
Husker fans would love to see Martinez come out guns blazing in this game, but it won’t be easy. How will he do and will Scott Frost put McCaffrey in if things aren’t going well?
