Can CEH have a big day running the ball?

The Patriots might have had eight players opt out of the 2020 season, but their defense has still been pretty solid when it comes to stopping the run. I don’t know how Bill Belichick does it, but time and time again he’s able to get a solid game plan for stopping opposing running backs and that’s going to be a storyline for Week 4.

The Chiefs haven’t had a scary running back in the last year and a half, but Clyde Edwards-Helaire gives them that added threat. Now opponents have to look into focusing on the run game and not just slowing down Mahomes and the passing attack.

Here have been the rushing totals against the Patriots in their three games so far this season:

  • Miami had 22 carries for 87 yards in Week 1
  • Seattle totaled 30 carries for 154 yards in Week 2
  • Las Vegas finished Week 3 with 22 carries for 126

The Seahawks had the best outing, but it’s still worth noting that no running back has had a 100+ yard day against New England. Edwards-Helaire will look to be the first running back to do so against the Patriots this year, but it won’t be easy. Even though this isn’t the same Patriots defense of old, this will be a match-up to watch.
