It’s okay for the KC Chiefs to have a bad game every now and then

KC Chiefs fans were pretty stunned to see just how badly the entire team looked on Sunday against the Chargers. Sometimes those games are going to happen because that’s how sports work.

It wasn’t looking good for the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday when they were trailing 17-6 halfway through the third quarter. Not only were they trailing by 11 points, but they hadn’t been playing well at all. They looked totally unprepared in this one and injuries weren’t helping either.

Sometimes this is going to happen, even to a team as well-coached and as talented as anyone in the entire league. Sometimes good teams lose to teams they shouldn’t lose to. Sometimes good teams have bad games. It happens and it’s okay.

Yes, it’d have been frustrating if the Chiefs had fallen to 1-1 on the year and suddenly found themselves staring up at the Chargers ahead of them in the division, but that’s how sports work sometimes.

The better team doesn’t always win; It’s about who the better team is on that particular day and as evidenced by Sunday’s result, even that’s no guarantee, as the Chargers had outplayed Kansas City for the majority of that game even with a rookie quarterback making his first ever start (which likely threw the defense off, as they were game planning for Tyrod Taylor).

The KC Chiefs playing poorly isn’t a reason to panic so long as they don’t do it again in week 3.

Let it be known that if the Chiefs slog their way through the first 3 quarters against the Baltimore Ravens, they won’t be coming back and winning that game. The Ravens are a whole different animal offensively than that of the Chargers. Instead of a rookie quarterback, they have the reigning MVP in Lamar Jackson, who will run roughshod over this Chiefs defense if they decide that tackling is optional again.

What makes the Kansas City Chiefs different from almost every team in the league is that despite them playing absolutely terrible for 3 quarters, they still forced overtime and won the game! Any Chiefs team prior to 2019 doesn’t come back and win that game, but the Super Bowl win showed them they can come back from just about any deficit and they did just that on Sunday.

For the fans who were complaining during the game, for one, this team just won a freaking championship 7 months ago, so if you really want to complain about anything just 2 games into the season, then I question your fandom.

Secondly, games like this happen to even the dynasties out there. Remember all of the times the Chiefs would beat up on the Patriots in the regular season? They did it in 2014 and 2017 and both times saw the Patriots go to the Super Bowl, even winning it in 2014.

Even if the Chiefs had lost this one, which they honestly deserved to, there would have been no need to panic. Bad games happen to everyone, even some of the greatest teams of all-time.

So don’t sweat it, Chiefs Kingdom. It’s not a Super Bowl hangover. We just saw this team hang 35 points on a playoff contending Texans team and they put up 20 points on the stout Chargers defense despite playing one of the worst games of Patrick Mahomes’ career.

It’ll be okay. No need to panic.
