KC Chiefs: 5 things we learned in week 2 overtime win vs Chargers
The KC Chiefs somehow squeaked out a win against a feisty Chargers team and move to 2-0 on the year. It was quite the comeback by the defending Super Bowl champions.
I’ll be honest here. I wasn’t feeling great about the Kansas City Chiefs‘ chances against the Los Angeles Chargers when it was 17-6 midway through the third quarter. But, I should know by now never to count this team out, even if it is a new season.
All it took to get the Chiefs back in the fold was for a miraculous throw by Patrick Mahomes to Tyreek Hill and then the two-point conversion that tied it up suddenly put me at ease. From there, well, we’ll get to that. Let’s take a look at what we learned in the Chiefs’ 23-20 overtime win.
1. Harrison Butker has ice in his veins
There was a time when I was scared for the Chiefs to be without Cairo Santos because of how dominant he had been as a kicker for them. But, with Santos’ injury came the emergence of Harrison Butker as a Chief and this guy has been incredible since taking the reins in 2017.
This game in particular showed why Butker is the best kicker in the league because the guy had not just 1, but 2 field goals from 58 yards out including the game winner in overtime. That moment wasn’t easy either, as Butker had to attempt the kick 3 times before it actually counted and he did so beautifully.
Give Butker any kind of money he wants moving forward because the guy has earned every penny. Clutch.
