The Kansas City Chiefs hit the road for the first time in the 2020 season and will face the Los Angeles Chargers. What did Madden predict for this game?

After 1 week of action in the NFL, 3 AFC West teams sit with a 1-0 record – the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles are 2 of those teams and will square off this Sunday afternoon in the late window of games.

Before we dive into what Madden predicted for week 2, let’s take a look at how the video game did with its week 1 projection.

Madden predicted that the Chiefs would not only lose in their first game since their Super Bowl LIV victory, but that they’d do so in overtime. The game predicted Houston to get the ball first in overtime and score the walk-off touchdown.

Thankfully, this didn’t happen, as the Chiefs won in convincing fashion, putting Madden’s record at 0-1 in the young season. How will they do with their week 2 projections? Let’s take a look.

Final Score: Chiefs 45, Chargers 9

CHIEFS STATS

CHARGERS STATS

This is a much better projection than what Madden came up with last week and while I don’t foresee this being quite this big of a blowout, the Chiefs will be heavy favorites against a Chargers team with a new look on offense.

According to this simulation, the Chiefs offense puts on a clinic in Los Angeles and Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the star once again, totaling 3 touchdowns on the afternoon with 2 on the ground and 1 in the air. Chiefs fans would be elated if the first round rookie had big games in back-to-back weeks.

Something you might notice when it comes to the Chargers stats is the absence of Keenan Allen. While this might have led people to think he didn’t play or left with an injury, Allen did indeed play in this game, but he was not targeted, which seems highly unlikely, especially against a weaker than normal Chiefs secondary.

Chris Jones had yet another big game, sacking Tyrod Taylor 3 times and also forcing a fumble (Taylor fumbled twice in this sim, but the Chargers recovered both of them). It was a tough day for the Chargers offense, who didn’t find the end zone at all, instead settling for 3 field goals.

This is a much better prediction than last week and hopefully the game does indeed turn out like this!
