4 Kansas City Chiefs to watch vs Texans in week 1
1. Clyde Edwards-Helaire
This seems like an obvious choice, as Clyde Edwards-Helaire was KC’s first round pick this year and he plays a skill position. Running back hasn’t been a flashy position for the Chiefs since midway through the 2018 season, but Edwards-Helaire has a chance to put the position back on the map in Kansas City.
Remember three years ago when the Chiefs went into Foxboro and ran roughshod over the defending champion New England Patriots? A lot of their success that night came from then-rookie Kareem Hunt and his versatility on the field, so Chiefs fans can expect to see Edwards-Helaire used in a similar fashion.
The Chiefs are the defending champs and Clyde Edwards-Helaire is also a National Champion himself having won the title at LSU earlier this year (it feels like so long ago, doesn’t it?) so he’ll always be on cloud nine as the Chiefs kick things off on Thursday night. Look for CEH to have a huge night against Houston.

Obviously Chiefs fans will be watching the big names like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, but these four players are ones that fans should be keeping a close eye on.

Tershawn Wharton makes the cut simply because he’s from a small local school and is going to play a role these first two games while Mike Pennel is serving his suspension. Kelechi Osemele could be the steal of free agency and it’ll be interesting to see how he starts the year at left guard after having a rough 2019 due to injury.
Rashad Fenton is going to have a tall task of replacing Bashaud Breeland for a month, but the Chiefs have other corners they can try to rotate if he struggles. It’s also possible that rookie L’Jarius Sneed is chosen for this role instead, but Fenton played well enough last year to deserve the starting gig.
Lastly, all eyes are going to be on rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who the Chiefs took with the 32nd overall pick (the final pick in round one). CEH is going to be the running back the Chiefs have been coveting for almost two years. He will thrive in this offense!
What do you think, Chiefs fans? Who are you going to be keeping a close eye on in Thursday night’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans?
