The 2020 MLB season is (finally) almost here and as a result, Bleacher Report updated their list of top 100 prospects where five Kansas City Royals made the list.

While there were no Kansas City Royals in the top 10, Bobby Witt Jr. makes the list at 25 and is the highest ranked Royal. The other four to appear are all pitchers, which isn’t shocking considering how much of an emphasis Dayton Moore has put on pitching these past few years.

Here are the five Royals to appear on Joel Reuter’s rankings and where they are ranked:

25. Bobby Witt Jr. (Second overall pick in 2019)

  • 50. Asa Lacy (Fourth overall pick in 2020)
  • 74. Daniel Lynch (34th overall pick in 2018)
  • 91. Brady Singer (18th overall pick in 2018)
  • 95.

    Jackson Kowar

    (33rd overall pick in 2018)

    More from Kansas City Royals

So, to sum up the rankings, the Royals’ two top five picks from each of the past two drafts land in the top 50, which isn’t surprising. Witt could be the next superstar in Kansas City and has been raking in Summer Camp. He’s only 20 years old and will definitely need another couple of years before he’s ready to contribute at the big league level.

Lacy was a downright steal at fourth overall and if the MLB season had been going on right now, there’s a solid chance he’d have been called up in September. In normal years, Royals fans would have gotten to watch him pitch for Texas A&M in the College World Series (or at least the games leading up to it).

The other three on the list are all pitchers the Royals took in 2018. Lynch was actually the third taken out of the three, but is the highest ranked on Reuter’s list. All three have legitimate chances to make the Royals rotation in the coming years, but out of all three, Singer is going to get the most buzz because he was the first chosen and is the biggest name out of the bunch.

Singer also has the best chance of getting into the rotation this year and seeing some meaningful innings for the Kansas City Royals. It wouldn’t be shocking if he was eventually able to grab the fifth starter spot in the rotation.

The Kansas City Royals had to give up a lot in their farm system to get back to a World Series in 2015 and to try and contend in both 2016 and 2017, but they’ve done a nice job rebuilding it and as a result, should be able to seriously contend for the postseason in the next few years.
