KC Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes predicted to lead NFL in passing touchdowns
No one would be surprised if KC Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the NFL in passing touchdowns in 2020.
At this point, nothing Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes does on the football field is shocking. He won the MVP title after just one full year under center and won a Super Bowl in his third NFL season (second as a starter).
Mahomes took the entire league by storm when he finally got the keys to the Chiefs offense in 2018. He exploded for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns that year and helped get the Chiefs the top seed in the AFC playoffs and did all he could to force overtime in the AFC Championship Game.
Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report posted his list of who he thinks will lead the NFL in certain stats and predicts Mahomes to lead the NFL in passing touchdowns in 2020. Honestly – It’d be more shocking if Mahomes didn’t accomplish this feat.

"Last year, Mahomes threw 11 touchdown passes and just one interception inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. The Chiefs kept his pass-catching group intact. Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson form arguably the league’s best receiving unit."
Mahomes might have had a step back in 2019 after his 50 touchdown campaign in 2018, but considering he missed three games (two starts) and still put up the numbers he did, that’s darn impressive.
As Moton noted, the KC Chiefs kept basically all of their offensive weapons from the previous season and that’s going to obviously help keep Mahomes as the best quarterback in the league. He still has Hill, Kelce, Watkins, Hardman, and Robinson, along with newly signed tight end Ricky Seals-Jones and first round rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire to throw the ball to as well.
Kansas City was able to win the Super Bowl behind Mahomes’ brilliant performance throughout the postseason and not losing any of his supporting cast is going to keep him at that level again. As long as that group can stay health and Mahomes himself can remain injury-free, what’s stopping the reigning Super Bowl MVP from putting up big numbers again in 2020?
Throw in the fact that Mahomes appears to be as healthy as ever even with the knee injury last year and he should easily be able to lead the league in touchdown passes in 2020.
What do you think, Chiefs fans? Is this a stat you expect to see Patrick Mahomes lead the pack in?
