The toughest defense the KC Chiefs will square off against this year is the Baltimore Ravens’ defense.

Charles Goldman of Chiefs Wire ranked every single defense the Kansas City Chiefs would face this year and had the toughest being the Baltimore Ravens, which really doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

"They added big-time defensive linemen like Calais Campbell and Derek Wolfe in free agency. Then they added linebackers Patrick Queen and Malik Harrison in the draft. They already have one of the most stellar secondary groups in the league. This unit has the potential to overtake the Patriots as the top defense in the NFL."

The Ravens – similar to the Chiefs – didn’t lose much in free agency, but definitely added talent. Their stout defense paired with their incredible offense makes Baltimore the Chiefs’ biggest threat in the AFC and after that it’s a big drop-off for who the third toughest team is.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City faces the Ravens in Baltimore in week three of the regular season and that game will be held on Monday Night Football. To this point, the Chiefs have had Baltimore’s number since Lamar Jackson took over, holding a 2-0 lead over the Ravens, but in 2020, things will finally shift to Baltimore and that could be a big factor in determining who wins that ball game.

These two teams are similar in that they’re solid on both sides of the ball. The Ravens bulldozed over everyone last season and their defense was a solid unit as well. The Chiefs’ offense is obviously so explosive, but their defense turned things around and became a strength by the back half of the regular season.

As for the rest of Goldman’s list, the top five defenses he had on KC’s defense were:

  1. Ravens
  2. Bills
  3. Patriots
  4. Chargers
  5. Saints

It’s hard to argue with that list, as all five of those defenses were lethal in 2020 and as Goldman mentioned, Baltimore got even better over the offseason.

Fortunately the Kansas City Chiefs have one of the best offenses we’ve ever seen, so they should be able to get the better of all of their opponents this year, but it’s still worth noting that their schedule has some good defensive teams. Those teams will be determined to knock the Chiefs’ off of their pedestal in 2020.

What do you think, Chiefs fans? Are the Ravens the team you’d consider to be the best defensive squad on KC’s schedule this year?
