Chiefs news includes Tyrann Mathieu being ranked as the best safety in the NFL according to Patrik Walker of CBS Sports.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, but Tyrann Mathieu topped Walker’s list of top NFL safeties. The Kansas City Chiefs hit the jackpot last offseason when they were able to bring Mathieu in on a three-year deal.

The Honey Badger had his work cut out for him when it came to trying to rebuild this shaky Chiefs secondary, especially after they played so poorly in 2018. What ensued, however, was Mathieu helping turn things around while also using his leadership and experience to turn rookie Juan Thornhill into a dominant safety as well.

Here is what Walker had to say about why he went with Mathieu for this nod,

"And yet, here we are seven years later, with Mathieu being a key reason the Chiefs ended a half-century long championship drought, his four interceptions, 75 combined tackles and 12 pass break ups in the regular season helping them to secure home field advantage. Those numbers were good enough to see him awarded another First-Team All-Pro honor to go along with his shiny new ring, and he earned both as much as he earned the right to top this list."

Mathieu was the driving force in what helped flip the script for this KC defense and he’s absolutely going to be cherished in Kansas City forever.

The Kansas City Chiefs are lucky to have Tyrann Mathieu and his efforts this past season helped guide them to a Super Bowl title. He’s under contract for two more years and it wouldn’t be shocking if the team opted to extend him before his original three-year deal is up.

Mathieu was a franchise changing acquisition for the Kansas City Chiefs and he definitely deserves to be ranked as the top safety in all of the NFL. Hopefully he spends the rest of his career with the Chiefs because he’ll always hold a special place in Chiefs Kingdom’s hearts from here on out.
