As great as it’d be for the Kansas City Chiefs to trade for Jamal Adams, it doesn’t seem realistic unfortunately.

Current New York Jets safety Jamal Adams is on the trade block and naturally, the Kansas City Chiefs are a team he’d like to end up with because – Well, of course he wants to play for a contender.

Adam Schefter tweeted Adams’ preferred choices when it comes to a potential trade. The Chiefs were one of seven, along with the Ravens, Cowboys, Texans, Eagles, 49ers, and Seahawks – Every single team on his list was a playoff team the season prior except for the Cowboys, but they’re “America’s team”, so them making the list isn’t shocking in the least bit.

The good news is that Adams would welcome a trade to the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs. The bad news is that him joining the Chiefs’ secondary doesn’t seem realistic unfortunately.

The biggest reason for this is salary cap space, as the Chiefs have less than four million in that department. That doesn’t give them a lot to work with when it comes to bringing in a safety who would want a contract extension with his new team.

They could decide to trade some players to New York in exchange for Adams instead, but is that really necessary? The team has talent at safety and breaking the bank for a player at a position that’s pretty well-covered doesn’t seem worth it.

Tyrann Mathieu, Juan Thornhill, and Daniel Sorensen will be the ones holding down the fort at safety and the team still might give Armani Watts one more shot to show something in 2020. If Adams came in, he’d obviously jump Sorensen on the depth chart, but Mathieu and Thornhill were doing a great job prior to Thornhill’s injury.

The Chiefs’ biggest focus this offseason needs to be paying Patrick Mahomes the money he deserves and figuring out what they want to do with Chris Jones. There might be some pressure as to being the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since the 2003-2004 Patriots, but giving up a haul for Adam isn’t the answer.

This will be something the Chiefs will need to get used to as long as they don’t have much money in salary cap space. They already have a pretty stacked roster, so while Jamal Adams would be a great addition, is he worth giving up a bunch of draft picks and some key players for?

The answer is no – No, he’s not.
