Bleacher Report updated their list of top 50 prospects and two Kansas City Royals prospects made the list.

The two Kansas City Royals who made Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report’s list of top 50 prospects were newly added 2020 first rounder Asa Lacy and 2019 first rounder Bobby Witt Jr, which comes as a surprise to no one, but let’s explore both of these prospects a little further.

Lacy came in at number 50 on the prospect list and here is what Reuter had to say,

"A 6’4″ left-hander with a three-pitch arsenal of power stuff and a strong track record of throwing strikes and racking up strikeouts, Lacy was viewed as the top pitching prospect in the 2020 draft for a reason. The No. 4 overall pick had a 2.07 ERA with 224 strikeouts in 152 innings during his time at Texas A&M, and he immediately moves to the top of an impressive list of pitching prospects in the Kansas City system."

Lacy has legit ace potential for the Royals, which is something they haven’t had in quite some time. He obviously has time to mature and polish things in the minors, but were this a normal season, the Royals definitely could have opted to call him up in September to get his feet wet in the majors a bit.

Witt is much higher on the prospect list, coming in at number 25. He was only 19 years old when the Royals drafted him second overall last June, so he won’t be in the majors any time soon, but his call-up will rival that of Eric Hosmer‘s as far as excitement level goes for Royals fans.

"A five-tool player with 20-20 potential offensively and the glove to be a standout shortstop, Witt was the consensus top high school player in the 2019 draft, and the Royals were happy to add him to a pitching-heavy system with the No. 2 overall pick.He hit .262/.317/.354 with eight extra-base hits and nine steals in 37 games after signing, and he could quickly shoot to the top tier of these rankings once he makes his full-season debut. He looks like the future face of the franchise in Kansas City."

Witt could definitely be the next big thing for the Kansas City Royals and it’ll be a truly exciting day when he gets his call-up. He’s definitely someone who could lead the next wave of prospects to the promise land and be  that legendary player amongst Royals fans.

More from Kansas City Royals

Neither of these two making the top 50 is surprising. Witt very well could be the Royals’ best position player when he gets called up and Lacy could be the team’s best pitcher. Lacy will be called up sooner due to being a collegiate player when he was drafted, but even though fans will have to wait longer to see Witt, it’ll be worth it.

Three other Royals appeared in the “Other 50” part of Reuter’s list – Jackson Kowar, Daniel Lynch, and Brady Singer. These three were selected back-to-back-back in the 2018 MLB Draft (though the order went Singer, Kowar, Lynch) and should add more dominant arms to what could be an absolutely insane Royals rotation.

The Royals’ farm system is getting stronger and this team should be ready to start contending in a few years as a result. The five prospects who made an appearance on Reuter’s list are going to be the most fun names to keep an eye on and some could even potentially see some playing time if there’s a season in 2020.

The future looks bright for the Kansas City Royals.
