Demarcus Robinson has a shot at a redo this year for the Kansas City Chiefs.

It seemed all too likely that once the 2019 season was in the books that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Demarcus Robinson would likely garner interest from other teams in free agency. A lot of that could be attributed to having Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback and the benefits that come from having a gunslinger like Mahomes who targets everyone on the field.

Unfortunately, Robinson didn’t really live up to the hype in 2019 and he had every opportunity to. Tyreek Hill was hurt in the first week of the season and that paved the way for Robinson to really step up and make his presence known.

He had one awesome week during Hill’s absence, which came against the Raiders in week two (six receptions for 172 yards and two touchdowns), but that was about all of the good for Robinson in 2019. He finished his fourth year in the pros with 32 receptions for 449 yards and four touchdowns, so yes a lot of that damage came during his outing in week two.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

With the Kansas City Chiefs winning the Super Bowl this past season, it seemed all too likely that Robinson was going to get a nice contract with another team. Instead, that never came to fruition and he ended up landing back in Kansas City on a one-year deal.

This is a shot at a redo for Demarcus Robinson after a lackluster 2019 season. No one left the Chiefs offense this offseason, so Robinson will still be at the same spot he was on the depth chart in 2020, but he now has a shot to try and prove once again that he’s able to be a WR2 or WR3 for a team in the future.

The big thing for Robinson this year will be if Mecole Hardman is able to surpass him on the depth chart. Hardman was mostly used on special teams last season, but he did have his moments on offense and at times seemed to be the clear cut WR3 for the Chiefs offense.

Robinson has yet to have a truly outstanding season for the Chiefs with his best season actually being this past one. He’s not a bad player by any means, but the hope is that he can step it up in 2020. The incentive is there for him this offseason because after not getting the kind of deal he was hoping for, he now has a rare second chance to accomplish just that.
