Chiefs news revolves around how the team won’t have training camp in their usual location of St. Joseph, Missouri.

The Kansas City Chiefs have spent the past ten years holding their summer training camp at Missouri Western in St. Joseph, Missouri and it’s been a nice spot for them. It’s close to Kansas City and has the accommodations for the staff and for the fans who come to watch the players train and get ready for the upcoming season.

Unfortunately, the Chiefs won’t be heading to St. Joseph this summer due to COVID-19.

Adam Schefter tweeted the news on Tuesday afternoon that NFL teams would be staying at their team’s facilities for training camp.

At this point, none of this is shocking. Even if the Chiefs did hold their camp in St. Joseph, fans likely wouldn’t be allowed to attend camp. If fans aren’t going to be allowed anyway, why bother having it in the usual spot and not just have it at their own facility? It’s the safest option for everyone.

"Does that also mean that the public will not be able to attend training camp sessions — as they have been able to do during Chiefs training camps in previous seasons? In all probability… yes. The Chiefs’ practice facility at Arrowhead Stadium just isn’t suitable for that."

As someone who has been to training camp at Missouri Western a couple of times over the years, it’ll be a bummer not to attend this summer, but I absolutely understand the reasoning behind the change. Right now, if fans want to see football played in 2020, it’s important that everyone treads with caution and takes this as seriously as possible.

Keeping the players in Kansas City and having them practice just with each other and no fans is what’s best. It’s a shame for St. Joseph businesses and Missouri Western, who rely heavily on the money they get from training camp each summer, but that’s been the trend with COVID-19. It’s taken a hit on everyone.

Hopefully next summer the Kansas City Chiefs can return to Missouri Western, as the organization and university agreed to keep training camp there for at least the next three years.
