It isn’t very common for an undrafted free agent to find himself on an active roster as a rookie. In fact last year, not a single KC Chiefs UDFA made the initial 53-man roster in 2019.

Now that doesn’t mean it is impossible, as Charvarius Ward was a UDFA (obtained via trade) that made the team as a rookie and now two seasons into his career is probably the Kansas City Chiefs‘ best cornerback.

While it is somewhat of a long shot for a UDFA to make the active roster, as showcased with Ward, it happens. Recently I spent some time getting to know each of the UDFAs; In this article I will weed through the 18 UDFAs signed this year and predict, which of them have the best shot to make the roster this season.

NUMBER FOUR: YASIR DURANT (OT)

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. Offensive Tackle. Missouri. Yasir Durant. 4. 822

Mizzou man Yasir Durant could be the KC Chiefs’ best UDFA signing this season. The problem, however, is that he played tackle in college and the Chiefs have two great tackles and drafted another tackle – Lucas Niang – in the third round this year.

In other words, while he’s a great pickup, Durant is going to have his work cut out for him trying to make the active roster. If Durant proves he can kick it inside and provide both guard and tackle depth, he does have a shot this season. If not, he is a lock for a practice squad spot.

Being a local prospect doesn’t hurt his chances at making the team either. Fans of both the Chiefs and the Missouri Tigers are definitely pulling for Yasir Durant to make his way onto the roster this year.
