Chiefs news involves Broncos linebacker Von Miller discussing how his team can’t stop Patrick Mahomes and the KC Chiefs. Instead, they have to rely on keeping up with them on the scoreboard.

Finally someone said it, it just happened to be Von Miller of the Denver Broncos who explained that his team can’t slow down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs offense. Instead, they have to go blow-for-blow with the Chiefs on offense and hope that when the clock hits zeros, they’re the ones ahead.

This came to light in an interview Miller did with Kent Babb of The Washington Post. The interview mostly was about Miller’s battle with coronavirus last month (which was very interesting to read), but there was a brief nugget about his team being in a division with the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

"We’ve just got to score points. If we’re able to get off the field — you can hold them to a third down here and there, but that’s on our offense. We’ve got to score on offense because you cannot — it’s not smart to go into the game and say we’re going to hold Patrick Mahomes to no points."

Obviously we all know this, but it took the Broncos some time to realize this apparently. They made it a point to draft offensive firepower this year in hopes that they can match up with Kansas City on the gridiron in the coming years.

"As an organization, Elway cannot be happy about his star being so blunt about both what he cannot do to thwart the Chiefs’ juggernaut offense and also in his reasonably direct attack at his team’s offensive output. A leader should never defer blame for a team’s inability to win, yet Miller has done just that."

The funny thing is that the Broncos were one of the few teams who could give Mahomes some problems. In 2018, they had him contained for the first half of the Monday night game in Denver, but then the left-handed pass happened and the rest is history.

More from Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes has yet to lose a game against the Broncos, but they’ve been better against him than a lot of teams have. To be fair though, they’ve faced him more than anyone, so they SHOULD be able to contain him more.

The tables sure have turned between the Chiefs and the Broncos. After Denver owned the Chiefs in the first half of the 2010s, Kansas City has swept them in each of the last four years. Mahomes wasn’t even their quarterback in those first two season sweeps, which is even funnier.

Miller is someone who used to talk a ton of smack about the Chiefs when his team was the one on top, so it’s been surprising that he’s been more humbling these past few years. Can you blame him though? Mahomes is really tough to stop and that’s why Denver made it a point to add weapons offensively. They know they can’t win with just an average defense.

If things were reversed and the Chiefs had a defensive player say this about a divisional team’s offense, that would likely aggravate the fans. It’ll be interesting to see where this story goes and if more Broncos players speak up on what Von Miller said.
