Year after year, it appears that the KC Chiefs are always looking to address the cornerback position. How do things look at cornerback now that the 2020 NFL Draft has concluded?

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl last season and it was a full team effort. The cornerbacks weren’t great, but they came up big in the Super Bowl, hauling in two interceptions with one essentially icing the game.

Kendall Fuller was one of those corners and he’s off to Washington now on a four-year deal, but how does the rest of the cornerback position look for KC heading into the 2020 season? Let’s take a looky loo.

These appear to be the three starters heading into the 2020 season, but there might be some shakeups considering what happened with Breeland last weekend. Him re-signing with the Chiefs was big, but it won’t be shocking if he misses some time via suspension and that means the Chiefs are going to have to find someone capable of filling the void during that time.

Ward and Fenton had nice seasons in 2019, but it’s a bit scary to think they’re the top two options with Breeland out of the picture. Fenton was a sixth round rookie last year and Ward went undrafted in 2018, struggled that year, and then played well in 2019.

The Chiefs do have some options on their roster however:

Out of this bunch, Hamilton is probably the one who would fill Breeland’s spot until the suspension was lifted. Hamilton was signed as a free agent this offseason (being the first player they signed after a week of no moves) and while he’s not someone who should start all 16 games, he’s decent enough to start a few.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

BoPete Keyes is the seventh round draft choice who the Chiefs actually traded a 2021 sixth rounder to move up and grab. He probably isn’t a starter, but there’s potential there for sure. The rest of the guys listed are UDFAs who will need to prove themselves to even make the roster.

The Chiefs could also decide to put L’Jarius Sneed as a corner, which seemed to be what they were wanting to do (at least according to the draft coverage). He played corner for three years at Louisiana Tech and then spent his final year at safety. Sneed could be utilized how the Chiefs used Fuller, playing both corner and safety.

Cornerback is always a position of interest for Kansas City Chiefs fans and this year is especially interesting because of how much firepower the other AFC West teams added. Throwing nobodies out there to cover these weapons won’t work, but hopefully Ward and Fenton play well again in 2020.
