CHIEFS AT SAINTS – DECEMBER 20TH (WEEK 15)

This is just disrespectful.

Out of the three  primetime snubs, this is the one that fans have to be most disappointed about not seeing under the lights. To truly understand why this game couldn’t possibly be anything but primetime, let’s rewind to the 2018 postseason.

As stated earlier, thanks to a penalty and questionable head scratching overtime rules, the Chiefs lost to the Pats in the AFC Championship, meanwhile, the Saints lost to the Rams in the NFC Championship game because of a horrible non-call. That gave birth to one of the most boring Super Bowls in the history of the game and providing us football fans with nothing but fond fantasies about the Chiefs/Saints super bowl that might have and should have been.

Now, albeit this would take place on a much smaller stage, that game is finally going to unfold in one of the tougher stadiums in the league in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. This is a true road test for the reigning champs and it will not be in primetime unfortunately.

We have seen Mahomes VS Wilson, Mahomes VS Roethlisberger, and we have seen Mahomes VS Brady several times now, but we have yet to see the spectacle and clash of offensive prowess that will be Mahomes VS Brees (two of the best quarterbacks in the league). With two juggernauts at quarterback and both their arsenals of their respective weapons, how exactly is that not primetime?

This is another game that not only deserves a spot under the lights, but should be on a Monday night, where it is the only football game in existence on that day.

The Sunday night match-up for week 15 is 49ers VS Cowboys, which is a nice choice. The Monday night game of Bengals VS Steelers, however, is less deserving and could have been relegated to a noon kickoff.

Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that the Chiefs will find themselves under the lights of primetime five times this season. As defending champs they deserve nothing less, but one might argue that perhaps they even deserve more.

I just don’t understand how you can look at the three games listed above (especially the last two) and not schedule these games under the lights. I get that the Bucs and Saints games are AFC vs NFC, and may not have much bearing on the outcome of the regular season, but who cares? It’d be a great match-up like the Chiefs/Rams Monday night game in 2018 was.

All of that being said, it is not out of the realm of possibility that one or more of these games could be flexed to a Sunday night slot or that one of the Chiefs’ final two Sunday night games could get flexed out for something more interesting.

Depending on how the seasons are going for these teams, the league might choose viewership over all else and consider what game will draw the most TV viewership on a Sunday, Monday or Thursday night.

Were there any match-ups you were hoping would land in primetime that I didn’t mention here?
