We’ve covered what the offensive positions look like for the KC Chiefs now that the 2020 NFL Draft has concluded, but what about on the defensive side of the ball? More specifically – what about along the defensive line?

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ defense improved greatly throughout the course of the 2019 season and as a result, the team was able to make it to and win Super Bowl LIV. The defensive line played a big part in that and the team was fortunate not to lose many pieces along their defensive line.

What does the depth chart look like after the 2020 NFL Draft?

Assuming Okafor recovers from his injury and is good to go, this will be the starting unit. Oh, also this is assuming Jones doesn’t get traded, but considering he’s still on the roster right now, it’s pretty likely that he’ll be wearing a Chiefs jersey when the 2020 season kicks off.

The depth behind these guys looks something like this:

Kpassagnon got to see more playing time last season as a result of Okafor’s injury and we all know how crucial Pennel ended up being down the stretch. Harris is someone who could stand to be replaced, potentially by one of the newcomers who was signed as an undrafted free agent.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Taco Charlton was signed earlier this week, so him making the roster seems like a lock. Breeland Speaks is also on the roster and as a 2018 second round pick, it’s doubtful the Chiefs give up on him so soon. That probably leaves Harris’ spot as the one job up for grabs amongst those battling it out this summer.

Mike Danna was a fifth round pick this year, but the consensus has seemed to be that he’ll be a project player, so the practice squad could be a possible spot for him. He could also win Harris’ job. The Chiefs also have Tim Ward, Braxton Hoyett, Devaroe Lawrence, and Tershawn Wharton listed at the defensive end and defensive tackle positions on their roster. These players could make a splash and find their way onto the final 55-man roster.

The KC Chiefs need to make sure they keep their defensive line strong and so it’ll be an intriguing area to watch this summer even if they are returning a lot of their players from the 2020 season.

What’s your prediction for the defensive line in 2020?
