Alex Smith might not be the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs anymore, but fans still appreciate him and were interested in the newest E:60 documentary about Smith titled “Project 11”.

Project 11 aired on ESPN Friday evening and was all about the journey Alex Smith took to get back from a brutal leg injury that he sustained in November 2018. Smith was a member of the Washington Redskins when the injury happened, but the Kansas City Chiefs were a big part of the documentary due to Smith playing for them for five years.

Yes, for the most part, the documentary details everything Smith and his family went through while he recovered from this devastating injury. The part that I was glad to see though – and what I’m glad all football fans now can see – is how tough Smith truly is.

Chiefs fans had their issues with Smith; Some didn’t like that he didn’t throw the ball deep or that he was too cautious while others simply wanted a flashier quarterback. Smith did wonders for the Chiefs organization, joining them just a few months after they had gone 2-14 and held the number one overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Smith wasn’t a monumental quarterback when he was with the Chiefs, but he won games and that’s what this franchise needed. At that point in time, fans just wanted to see a winning product. They didn’t need the flashy plays, the big time wins, or even fancy players – They just wanted to win some football games.

Smith won 50 games during his Chiefs career and my favorite memory of him was when he brought the Chiefs back when they were getting their butts whooped by the Chargers. When Smith plowed his way into the end zone for the game winning touchdown in overtime, he let out a huge roar while also showcasing his toughness to everyone watching.

It was then that most of Chiefs Kingdom knew about how tough Smith was, but if they didn’t realize it then, they’ll know about after this documentary. To see everything Smith went through after sustaining that injury and to see where he is now is remarkable and speaks to what kind of a guy he is.
