The KC Chiefs might be in a situation where they need a WR2 option in case Sammy Watkins isn’t on the team in 2020. Who are some of the best options still available in free agency?

The Kansas City Chiefs have had an explosive offense the past two seasons and will look to keep that trend going as they defend their Super Bowl title in 2020. It might be tricky, however, as they could lose two of their wide receivers this offseason.

As we all know by now, Sammy Watkins may or may not be on the team in 2020. Demarcus Robinson recently re-signed, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be the WR2 should Watkins leave. That means the Chiefs will still have Robinson, Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, and Byron Pringle as their main wideout options for 2020 assuming Watkins isn’t back.

The 2020 wide receiver draft class could very well be one of the best ever and it’d be smart for the Chiefs to select one in April. With only five selections in the draft, however, that might not be an option for Kansas City.

SO, if they opt to instead look to free agency, here are the best options currently available. These are in no particular order.

TAYLOR GABRIEL

Last month I wrote about how Taylor Gabriel could be a nice depth piece for the Chiefs and had this to say,

"He’s never been THE guy in the offense, but the Chiefs don’t need a player like that. They have Hill and Travis Kelce as their main threats in the offense, so Gabriel would simply provide someone who could get key first downs. Give Gabriel a good quarterback and he’s a great weapon to have."

I stand by that statement.

Gabriel’s 2019 season was lackluster because his quarterback in Chicago was lackluster (sorry Bears fans). Give him someone like Patrick Mahomes slinging the ball to him and Gabriel would be a very different player.

With the Chiefs not needing a game changing wideout in free agency, Gabriel is someone who could be a nice piece for this offense.
