Kansas City Chiefs: Emmanuel Ogbah signs with Dolphins
The Kansas City Chiefs won’t be re-signing Emmanuel Ogbah for 2020 and beyond, as the defensive tackle has landed with the Dolphins on a two-year deal worth $15 million.
The Kansas City Chiefs struck gold when they brought Emmanuel Ogbah in for the 2019 season. Ogbah totaled five and a half sacks in ten games and four starts before getting injured and missing the remainder of the season.
While it didn’t seem likely, it would have been an excellent idea to bring Ogbah back after what he provided the Chiefs defense in 2019. With some big contract extensions potentially on the line, however, re-signing Ogbah after the season he had didn’t seem likely.
The only hope was that maybe some teams would be scared off by his injury, but with him totaling five and a half sacks and only being 26 years old, it makes sense for another team to scoop him up. Even more – Ogbah will hit free agency again at age 28, so this was a smart deal for both sides.
The Dolphins are an interesting landing spot for Ogbah, as they were rebuilding in 2019, but looked much better than what many were anticipating. They even took down the Patriots in week 17 to hand the Chiefs the two seed in the playoffs and we all know what happened as a result of that.

Ogbah looked like a disappointment in Cleveland – who took him in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft – and Brett Veach took a chance in bringing him to Kansas City. He rejuvenated his career in just ten games with the Chiefs and now earned a big contract as a result. Good for Ogbah!
This is the first of many free agents that Chiefs fans can expect to see sign elsewhere, as they’re simply not going to have the money to pay these guys. Hopefully Kansas City can still make a strong attempt to keep Mike Pennel in Chiefs red and between the two – Pennel would be the more popular choice to retain even with Ogbah being two years younger.
The Chiefs defense did improve when Ogbah went down, but make no mistake – It’ll be unfortunate to see him go.
Even though Emmanuel Ogbah won’t be in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform in 2020, having him on the team was pivotal toward the defensive resurgence and at least he went on to make some money at the next stop of his career. That might not have happened if he had still been in Cleveland this past season.
