The Kansas City Chiefs have had one of the most exciting offenses to watch over the last couple of seasons. If they want to continue that trend, they must add as many weapons as possible. One of those weapons could be Randall Cobb.

The Kansas City Chiefs have an interesting offseason ahead. They don’t currently have much space in the salary cap and yet, they’re fully capable of competing for a second straight Super Bowl win.

With some potential big contracts on the horizon, they’ll have some tough decisions to make with the roster. For this reason, some key players from this Super Bowl-winning team will likely be playing elsewhere next year.

It wouldn’t be hard to see two of those such players being wide receivers Sammy Watkins and Demarcus Robinson. Watkins could become a casualty of the salary cap and Robinson will likely be looking for a bigger, long-term contract elsewhere.

Fortunately, the Chiefs have Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman, so there’s still some great talent at the position. Even so, a solid veteran presence will help to solidify that group.

One player that Kansas City should consider bringing in is soon-to-be free agent, Randall Cobb.

After spending eight seasons of his career in Green Bay, Cobb signed a one-year deal with Dallas last offseason. While his name didn’t seem to get much recognition last season, he still managed to haul in over 800 yards receiving and three touchdowns through 15 games. Cobb’s presence and those numbers certainly helped Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott put together a career year.

Cobb would add a reliable target for Patrick Mahomes in the same way that he did for Prescott and for Aaron Rodgers for years before that. Where Sammy Watkins struggles with injuries and Demarcus Robinson struggles with being inconsistent, Cobb could add value to the Chiefs roster in that he at least seems reliable and consistent.

That may not be flashy, but would certainly be a benefit to Kansas City’s offense. There’s also the fact that he’s a veteran presence and could bring experience and leadership to a young Chiefs’ receiving corps.

While Cobb could decide to stay in Dallas if they work to retain him, he could also be drawn to Kansas City for a chance to win it all before his career is over. Unfortunately for Cobb, he missed playing in and winning the Super Bowl with Green Bay by one year.

At nearly 30 years old, he may be realizing how finite the years are and how few chances a player gets to win a ring. For this reason, the Kansas City Chiefs could become a more desirable landing spot while also not breaking the bank.

Last offseason, Cobb signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys for $5M. Could the Chiefs offer him something similar but on a two or three-year deal? That could potentially get the better years that he has left while coming in at a price much cheaper than Watkins or Robinson. A less expensive deal then, in turn, means that Kansas City would have more money to spend elsewhere on the roster.

There doesn’t appear to be any chatter about the Chiefs pursuing Cobb, which would make signing him a nice under-the-radar kind of move. Being on such a thin budget this offseason, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach certainly has his work cut out to improve the roster, but signing Cobb would help.

Who wouldn’t want a chance to catch passes from THE Patrick Mahomes? Hopefully, Chiefs Kingdom will get a chance to see Randall Cobb catching passes from MVPat in 2020.
