KC Chiefs News: NFL free agency one week away
KC Chiefs news is all about NFL free agency, which officially opens up next week. Who could the Kansas City Chiefs add and who might they lose in free agency?
Once the confetti fell and the 2019 season had officially wrapped with the Kansas City Chiefs holding the Lombardi Trophy, it signaled the end of yet another NFL season. The next thing for football fans to really get excited about was the start of free agency, which we’re inching closer to.
The biggest names hitting free agency from the Chiefs are Bashaud Breeland, Kendall Fuller, Emmanuel Ogbah, Mike Pennel, Reggie Ragland, Demarcus Robinson, Anthony Sherman, and Stefen Wisniewski. Out of that group, the Chiefs probably can’t afford to bring back Breeland or Fuller (at least not both of them) and guys like Ogbah and Pennel proved themselves enough in 2019 to potentially earn a big contract.
The Chiefs have already made a big move in free agency, which occurred when they slapped the franchise tag on Chris Jones, who also would have been hitting the market. The Chiefs could still end up moving Jones via trade, but at this point, the return would have to be pretty big for that to happen.
The Chiefs will also have to make decisions on who to cut and the two biggest names in those conversations are Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Sammy Watkins. Those guys are under contract for the 2020 season, but LDT has an out after 2019 while cutting Watkins saves $14 million.
On top of all of that, Kansas City needs to fill other needs by signing free agents. They haven’t been linked to many big stars out there (and that will be the case for awhile, especially once Patrick Mahomes is inked to a big time deal), but a name that has been floated around is Chris Harris, who looks to be on his way out of Denver.

"Dez Bryant played his last NFL snap back in 2017, so it would normally be crazy for the Kansas City Chiefs to even consider picking up a player like that. Does he really have anything left in the tank?"
