Spring training still surrounds most of KC Royals news right now and a name that has impressed in the two weeks of camp so far is Randy Rosario, who could find his way onto the Opening Day roster as part of the bullpen.

After disappointing with the Chicago Cubs in 2019, Randy Rosario joined the Kansas City Royals and looked good during the back half of the season. He appeared in just six games for the boys in blue, pitching 3.2 innings and not allowing an earned run.

Rosario didn’t receive a ton of hype heading into spring training, but he’s looked tremendous in camp thus far. The 25-year-old lefty has tossed 5.1 scoreless innings through five games and hasn’t allowed a run while striking out two batters. What’s even more eye popping are the three saves Rosario has on his 2020 spring training resumé.

While Rosario probably doesn’t edge Ian Kennedy out for the closer job, there is a strong case to be made that he potentially gets Tim Hill‘s spot in the bullpen, as Hill has struggled through the first two weeks of spring training.

"Hopefully Rosario can continue this pace because he’s looking like a good option to have in the bullpen, especially with Hill struggling two weeks into camp."

The Kansas City Royals won’t be competitive in 2020, but fans should see improvement with the team this season. Randy Rosario isn’t someone who people really point to when it comes to the future of the franchise, but he’s still young and under club control until 2025.

When the Royals had their most success, it was because of their shutdown bullpen. Rosario is showing glimpses of being a bullpen gem, but spring training is a different animal from the big leagues.

If Rosario can become someone the Royals can call out of the pen to help them win games, that’d be awesome. So far, he’s looking like he’s inching his way closer to that 2020 roster.
