KC Chiefs: Questions to address at wide receiver in 2020 offseason

The KC Chiefs need to make sure they keep the wide receiver position fully stocked so that their offense can keep on trucking. What questions surround the receiver position this offseason?
Continuing on with our offseason questions about each position, this time around we’ll look at the wide receiver position, which is a position the Kansas City Chiefs will have a lot of questions to address this offseason.
The biggest one surrounds Sammy Watkins, who is under contract for another year and owed $21 million if he does return to Kansas City for the 2020 season. If the Chiefs part ways with Watkins, they’ll save $14 million and the WR2 from 2018 and 2019 has been spouting off on Twitter about where he may land in the future.
Another is what the team will do with Demarcus Robinson, who is slated to hit free agency.

I’ve discussed my thoughts on Robinson in the past and I’d be perfectly fine with the Chiefs letting him walk and another team paying him big bucks. He’s not going to be worth whatever contract he earns and the Chiefs can’t have the mistake of a bad contract anyway – Not with some big contracts about to be issued this offseason.
If Watkins does depart this offseason, the Chiefs will need to address who the WR2 is going to be moving forward because it probably won’t be Robinson either. Mecole Hardman had a nice rookie season, but he mostly did damage on special teams (and still had a better year than Robinson, for what it’s worth), so he could become more involved on the offensive side.
The obvious move here would be to utilize one of the many talented receivers in the upcoming draft. This year’s draft might have the best crop of receivers ever and even though the Chiefs only have five picks, they should take advantage of the talent at the position this year.
That’s not to say they have to spend their first round pick on a wideout, but one of their 2020 draft selections needs to be spent on a receiver because that’s not a position the Chiefs can ignore. Yes, this offense is lethal, but if Tyreek Hill were to get injured again in 2020, is anyone filling confident in Hardman stepping in as the WR1?
No – The Chiefs need to find a surefire WR2 and the best place to do so is in the draft. They’ll probably lose both Watkins and Robinson this offseason, so the best bet is to go the cheap route and find depth at the position in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Wide receiver is an important position for the Kansas City Chiefs and they need to make sure they have enough quality depth on the roster in 2020.
