While the notion of keeping the band together is a popular one for Kansas City Chiefs fans – especially after winning a Super Bowl – the team must stay aggressive when it comes to who to keep and who to cut.

Daniel Sorensen and Sammy Watkins both made huge plays throughout the run to the Super Bowl, but that can’t be the reason the Chiefs keep them on the roster. As fun as that month in our lives was, it’s time to move forward and leave the past in the past.

More from Chiefs Free Agency

While I listed Laurent Duvernay-Tardif as a cut nominee, I’d only be okay with that if the Chiefs make interior line a priority over the next few months. Getting that contract off the books would be great, but it shouldn’t happen unless there’s a plan in place to get a better option.

Cameron Erving is an easy pick to cut, as he was not efficient when filling in for Eric Fisher this past season. Erving was definitely a liability when he was in the game.

Dustin Colquitt might be the hardest to part ways with, but that time is going to come soon, as he’s 38 years old and his better days of punting the football are behind him. Punters are cheap, and right now, cheap is good for the Chiefs who need to cut costs where they can in order to pay the face of their franchise.
