Kansas City Chiefs: Unsung heroes en route to Super Bowl LIV victory
DANIEL SORENSEN
Prior to the 2019 season, a lot of fans were thinking that Daniel Sorensen might be a cap casualty, but thank goodness he wasn’t! Sorensen – or “Dirty Dan” as many in the kingdom like to call him – had arguably the BIGGEST play in the Divisional Round against the Texans.
After the Chiefs stopped the bleeding and found the end zone to narrow the gap to 24-7, the Chiefs had forced a three and out. The Texans were about to punt the ball until – Wait! They tried to go for it!
Had Sorensen not have sniffed out the fake, Justin Reid of the Texans would have easily converted and with the way Houston had been moving the ball to that point, it could have gotten out of hand. Sorensen’s heads up play allowed the Chiefs to get the ball back deep in Texans territory and we all know what happened from there.
Sorensen might not be the best safety out there on every play, but he’s a darn good player and made a key difference this postseason.
TERRELL SUGGS
The early storyline when the Chiefs claimed Terrell Suggs off of waivers in December was how he was only going to play for the Ravens – the team that had initially drafted him back in 2003.
Well – It’s probably a safe bet that Suggs is now elated to NOT have been claimed by Baltimore. He won his second ring on Sunday and both of his Super Bowl titles have come against the 49ers. How crazy is that?
Suggs wasn’t someone who took over games on defense, but no one expected him to be that. He had two tackles in the Super Bowl and helped this team against the run when it mattered the most.
