MLB Pipeline released their top 100 prospects heading into the 2020 MLB season and three KC Royals prospects were fortunate to make the list with one even cracking the top ten!

If the Kansas City Royals want to win another World Series, they’ll have to rely on their prospects to help get them back to the top of the mountain. There are three that MLB Pipeline has the most hope for in 2020: Bobby Witt Jr. (10th), Brady Singer (59th), and Daniel Lynch (61st).

Witt Jr. being ranked the highest – and in the top ten – isn’t the least bit shocking, as he was the Royals’ first top five draft pick since they selected Kyle Zimmer fifth overall in 2012. The 19 year old shortstop spent the 2019 season in the Arizona league, slashing .262/.317/.354 in 180 plate appearances.

Witt Jr. is still very young, so he won’t be getting promoted to the major leagues anytime soon, but there are high expectations for him when the time does come for his MLB call-up.

The other two making the list were two pitchers the Royals took in the 2018 MLB Draft in Brady Singer and Daniel Lynch. Singer pitched at Florida and led the Gators to a College World Series title in 2017 as a sophomore. He didn’t get a chance to pitch for the Royals in 2018 due to injury, so 2019 was the first glimpse fans got of him and they weren’t disappointed.

Singer had a 1.87 ERA and 1.11 WHIP during his time in Wilmington and soon got promoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas, where he finished the year with a 3.47 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 90.2 innings pitched. Singer is 23 years old and while a lot of Royals fans might expect to see him in 2020, it might be smart for Kansas City to wait another year before calling him up to the big leagues.

Lynch pitched at Virginia and was taken the same year as Singer. Lynch looked to be tremendous right out of the gate, but he battled injuries in 2019. Even with the injuries, Lynch still had a great 2019 campaign, throwing 96.1 innings for three different minor league teams and ending the year with a 2.99 ERA between those three teams.

Royals fans have been excited at the possibility of Singer, Lynch, Jackson Kowar, Kris Bubic, and Jonathan Bowlan (the team’s first five picks in 2018) potentially becoming big time arms for the team during their next World Series run. While it’s unlikely that all five turn into something great, Singer and Lynch are off to a great start.

Bobby Witt Jr. is going to continue to get a lot of the headlines and him making the top ten prospects so early on into his career is hopefully a great sign of what’s to come for the young shortstop.
