KC Chiefs: Titans did their part to ensure conference championship
For the KC Chiefs to be in their current situation, one that other teams would pray to the football gods to be placed in, the planets had to align just right. They have done so for the Chiefs.

The first planet aligned when the Kansas City Chiefs defeated their last regular season opponent in the LA Chargers, and at that same exact moment in Gillette Stadium, the Dolphins handed the New England Patriots their second home loss of the season. That gave the Pats the three seed in the playoffs and the Chiefs the second seed, meaning KC was gifted with a first round bye.
The second planet aligned when the Chiefs played the Texans, and if they were victorious, they would travel to Baltimore to play in the AFC Championship game against the Ravens. Not many people counted on the Titans being in upset mode.
While the Chiefs were sitting at home with the week off, the Titans traveled to New England and handed the Patriots their third home loss of the season. This was the knockout punch for Brady and Belichick, as the loss would knock them out of the playoffs and give them the most premature seasons end since 2010. There, another planet aligns into place for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Finally, we come to Sunday afternoon.
Most predictions had the Titans falling to the Ravens, who came into this Divisional Round absolutely red hot. They were on a 12 game winning streak and fresh from off bye week, most people thought the Ravens couldn’t lose another game.
Instead, the Titans dominated every phase of the game and handed the Ravens a brutal upset to the tune of 28-12 and doing so, punched their ticket to the AFC Championship game. That was yet another planet falling in line for our fearless Chiefs.
Now that the Chiefs have defeated the Texans in spectacular fashion, and instead of having to travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens, they will be hosting the AFC Championship game for the second consecutive year. There is where the last planet falls into place for them on this magical run to the top of the mountain.

Many Chiefs fans – myself included – thought there was no way the stakes could get any higher from last year, but with the aligning of the planets that I have described above, those impossibly high stakes from this time last year have just risen.
Let’s be honest… Events could not have possibly transpired better for the Kansas City Chiefs. Their old nemesis – the New England Patriots – were taken out of the equation early by another team, and because of that same team, instead of traveling to Baltimore, they will host the AFC Championship Game surrounded by all their fans.
Oh, and instead of facing the number one seed, only the number six seed stands between them and a trip to Miami. This is no easy task though, as the Titans have fought their way here, perhaps even more so than the Chiefs have. Ironically, it seems that the team the Chiefs are cursed against have made all this possible for Kansas City to be in such a desirable position.
Derrick Henry has been a thorn in the side of the Chiefs every time they have faced him. In the last two weeks, Henry has gone up against what some might have considered the two best defenses in the league, and racked up nearly 200 yards against both of them. If the Chiefs aren’t the defense to come up with an answer to limiting Henry’s production, they could meet the same fate as the teams before them did.
The bottom line is this: The Kansas City Chiefs have run out of excuses.
Assuming that Chris Jones plays on Sunday, they will be an almost completely healthy Chiefs team, with a phenomenal young quarterback that has caught every break that a team possibly can on a road to the Super Bowl. If they fall from greatness this time, then the mind blowing game against the Texans and the games before it will ring hollow whenever they are talked about around a tailgate by Chiefs fans.
Maybe I am just imagining things, and there is no curse when it comes to the Chiefs playing the Titans. After all every sports fan is just a little superstitious, but if there is a curse, not only on Chiefs playing the Titans, but on the Chiefs during the postseason, then there is absolutely no better time for both curses to be broken than Sunday afternoon at 2:05 PM at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Titans went into Gillette Stadium in New England and won. They then went into M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore and took down the number one seed in the AFC. The Kansas City Chiefs will make sure they don’t come into Arrowhead Stadium with yet another victory because this is the Chiefs’ year.
