I believe the Kansas City Chiefs have been anticipating moving Jones since the 2019 offseason.

This has been a move that the Chiefs have been planning since the 2019 draft. Between the selection of Khalen Saunders over a cornerback or the depth the organization has created at the position, the Chiefs are preparing themselves to move on from Jones at the conclusion of this season.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

In the NFL, there really are two positions on your roster: The quarterback and everyone else.

If you have the quarterback (and the Chiefs do), then every move must be about building and creating the best depth for the remainder of the 52 spots. With big contracts for Clark along with Hill, Mathieu, Travis Kelce, Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz, it’s really hard to imagine the money being there for Jones.

Is Chris Jones more valuable than Ogbah, Breeland and multiple draft picks? Different people will have different views and responses.

The Chiefs are going to sign Patrick Mahomes to an extension this offseason that will turn the signal caller into the Monopoly guy, and will also look to figuring out the contracts of Tyrek Hill, Tyran Mathieu and Charvarius Ward.

The chances of Chris Jones being in Chiefs red a year from now aren’t high, as sad that is to think about.
