After a 51-31 victory over the Texans, the KC Chiefs will now host the AFC Championship game for the second straight year. In order to get to the Super Bowl, they’ll have to beat a team who has had their number.

After a 24-0 deficit, it didn’t look promising for the Kansas City Chiefs to host the AFC Championship game next weekend. They rallied, however, and now get to play the Tennessee Titans next weekend.

The Titans have been a pain in the butt for the Chiefs. The most recent nightmare against them came in week ten when the Chiefs should have won, but blew the game in the final minutes to lose 35-32.

Before that, it was the horrid playoff loss when KC was up 21-3 at the half and wound up losing 22-21. That same season, they lost on a last second field goal by the Titans (which was missed on the first attempt). For some reason, Tennessee can beat the Chiefs in the most bizarre ways, but the Chiefs also had a chance to win in every single one of those games. That’s the biggest takeaway here.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

While a lot of Chiefs fans are not the happiest about who they’ll be playing next weekend, this is exactly what the Chiefs need in order to show they’re ready to play in the biggest game of the year. If they can take down the Titans, a team who has notoriously beaten them in the weirdest of ways, then there’s nothing that will stop them from winning a Super Bowl.

The playoffs are all about playing the best of the best and it’s only fitting that the only thing standing in Kansas City’s way of making it to their first Super Bowl in 50 years, is a team that has been a major thorn in their side. We saw this last year when the Chiefs had to beat the Colts in order to make it to their first AFC Championship in 20+ years. The Colts had also been a team who notoriously beat KC in weird ways.

It’s easy to look back at the past losses to the Titans and be afraid of them. After all, this is a Titans team that is fearless, going into Foxborough and defeating the Patriots and then going into Baltimore and smacking the Ravens directly in the mouth. They rely on Derrick Henry to carry the load and Chiefs fans know all too well how much damage Henry can do.

I would rather not have to play the Titans in the postseason, but it’s down to just them and the Chiefs on the AFC side of things, so in order for the Chiefs to get to the biggest game in football, they’ll have to beat a team who has been tough on them.
