The Kansas City Chiefs won again in week 16, but it’s looking pretty likely that they’ll be hosting a game on Wild Card weekend. Let’s take a look at the playoff standings with one week of regular season action to go.

After a beatdown of the Chicago Bears, the Kansas City Chiefs have more than likely locked up the three seed in the postseason. If they lose on Sunday and the Texans win (and they play in the later window), then KC would end up as the four seed. Otherwise, they’ll be the three seed probably.

Here are the playoff standings in the AFC:

  1. Baltimore Ravens (13-2) – BYE – Clinched home field advantage
  2. New England Patriots (12-3) – BYE – Clinched AFC East
  3. Kansas City Chiefs (11-4) – Clinched AFC West
  4. Houston Texans (10-5) – Clinched AFC South
  5. Buffalo Bills (10-5) – Clinched playoff berth
  6. Tennessee Titans (8-7)

IN THE HUNT: STEELERS (8-7), RAIDERS (7-8)

Facing the Titans is the last thing Chiefs fans want considering that team has owned them over the years. Andy Reid struggles with the Titans for whatever reason, so Chiefs fans need to pull for Houston to beat the Titans (the game is in Houston) and for the Steelers to beat a Ravens team filled with backups. The Texans will know prior to their game if they’re locked into the four seed or not, so don’t be surprised if Tennessee is playing backups in that one.

If the season ended today, yes, the Chiefs would host the Titans and the Texans would host the Bills in the Wild Card round. If the teams played to their seeds, KC would go to Foxborough and Houston would head to Baltimore.

As for the in the hunt, the Raiders are still mathematically alive, but they need to win on Sunday and have a lot of help from other teams. The Steelers are also alive, but they have to hope for a Tennessee loss and handle the Ravens too.

We’ve covered that the Ravens and Steelers play each other as do the Texans and Titans, so who do the other teams in contention play? Well, the Patriots host the Dolphins and if New England wins, they’re the two seed.

Kansas City hosts the Chargers with a chance to still grab the two seed. The Bills host the Jets in a game that’s essentially meaningless for them, as they officially can’t be anything more than the five seed. Oh and the Raiders travel to Denver for a date with the Broncos.

As for the NFC playoff picture, there was a change at the top once again.

  1. San Francisco 49ers (12-3) – Clinched playoff berth
  2. Green Bay Packers (12-3) – Clinched NFC North
  3. New Orleans Saints (12-3) – Clinched NFC South
  4. Philadelphia Eagles (8-7)
  5. Seattle Seahawks (11-4) – Clinched playoff berth
  6. Minnesota Vikings (10-5) – Clinched playoff berth

IN THE HUNT: COWBOYS (7-8)

The Niners jumped up to the number one overall seed after the Seahawks lost, but they’ll battle it out for the division title and potential number one seed on Sunday Night Football this weekend. With the 49ers having the head-to-head over the Packers and Saints, they get the one seed and Green Bay has the better conference record over New Orleans, so that’s why those three seeds line up that way.

The Eagles jumped into the four seed after taking down the Cowboys this past week. That division has proven to be a joke, but if Philadelphia can win on Sunday against the Giants, they’re in the playoffs. It’s not looking good for Jason Garrett in Dallas.

If the season ended today, however, it’d be Minnesota at New Orleans and Seattle at Philadelphia in the Wild Card round. From there, it’d probably be the Seahawks in San Francisco and the Saints squaring off in Green Bay.

There’s a lot on the line in week 17, so what will the final standings look like?
