KC Chiefs: Five things to watch vs Chicago Bears in week 16
AN OLD FRIEND
Sunday marks the first time the Kansas City Chiefs will see Khalil Mack since he was traded. If you’ll recall, Mack used to be an Oakland Raider and totaled five and a half sacks against the Chiefs during his four year stint in the AFC West.
It’ll be the first time Patrick Mahomes has faced Mack, so hopefully he’s able to get the football out quickly because it’s no secret that the offensive line has struggled this year. Mack hasn’t had his usual dominating numbers in 2019, but he’s still a nightmare for offensive lines to face and is someone the Chiefs absolutely need to game plan for.
MAHOMES VS TRUBISKY
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention one of the more obvious storylines in this game and that takes us back to the 2017 NFL Draft.
In that draft, the Bears traded up one spot and took Mitchell Trubisky with the second overall pick. Trubisky had been the quarterback that kind of came out of nowhere and draft pundits loved him for whatever reason.
Well, eight selections later, the Chiefs had traded up and took Patrick Mahomes, which ended up being the move of the century for this franchise. Mahomes didn’t play until week 17 his rookie year while Trubisky played half the season, but in 2018, Mahomes easily was the better quarterback between the two, winning the MVP award that year.
Trubisky has rebounded as of late, but he’s nowhere near the passer that Mahomes is and never will be. This Sunday will be the first time the two will go head-to-head in a regular season game and it’ll be fun to watch and hear all of the 2017 draft stories.
