With their 23-3 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs have now swept Denver four straight years. The dominance over their rivals began near the end of the 2015 season and has been going strong ever since.

If you’ll remember back to the end of the 2015 season, the Kansas City Chiefs were on their way back from a 1-5 start only to finish the regular season with ten straight wins and finish the year at 11-5. On their way to that 11-5 record, the Chiefs got another crack at the Broncos, who up until that point, had had KC’s number big time.

Ever since then, the tides turned and it’s been the opposite since then. The Chiefs have handled the Broncos and it all began in 2015 when they picked off Peyton Manning four times and in turn, got him benched. They then picked Brock Osweiler off too and won the game by a score of 29-13.

Since that game, it’s been all Chiefs in this rivalry.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

In 2016, Kansas City won both games, though the first of the two was closer than expected, with the Chiefs winning 30-27 in overtime. That was the game where had Cairo Santos‘ field goal attempt not gone off the crossbar and through the uprights, the Chiefs and Broncos would have tied.

Both teams were in playoff contention at that point, but nearly a month later (on Christmas night, no less) we learned who the better team was for sure. Kansas City hosted the Broncos and smoked their divisional foe, winning it 33-10.

This was the Dontari Poe touchdown pass game, which seemed unnecessary considering how big of a lead the Chiefs had at the time, but hey… It was funny, especially with how badly the Broncos had beat up on the Chiefs for years.

With that win on Christmas, Chiefs fans got the best gift of all; They clinched the AFC West and also knocked the Broncos out of the playoff hunt in one foul swoop. How glorious!

In 2017, the Chiefs swept the series again, winning 29-19 in week eight at Arrowhead on Monday Night Football and winning again 27-24 in the final game of the regular season. That was Patrick Mahomes‘ first career start and NFL debut and he made sure the Broncos knew that he’d be dominating them for awhile.

Mahomes, the official new quarterback of the Chiefs, paved the way for another sweep of the Broncos in 2018 where they won 27-23 in week four and 30-23 in week eight. Those were both much closer games, but the Chiefs still walked away victorious.

With Sunday’s defeat over the Broncos, the Chiefs have now rattled off four straight seasons of sweeping the Broncos while winning nine straight overall. Mahomes is 5-0 against Denver (though he did miss a good chunk of the week seven win this year due to his injury) and while they played him tough last year, this year they did not.

The Broncos had some hype surrounding them coming into this game due to how well Drew Lock had been playing, but Mahomes took them out of the game almost immediately. This battle was never in doubt and it’s been fun watching the Kansas City Chiefs beat up on the Denver Broncos with how lopsided this rivalry used to be.

It was always frustrating watching these two teams play because no matter what happened, Denver had KC’s number. Now, however, it’s the other way around. The Chiefs have Denver’s number and you can tell its frustrated Broncos players and fans.

The win didn’t mean a ton for the Chiefs considering they already clinched the AFC West, but beating the Broncos is always a good time.
