The KC Chiefs took the field in wintery conditions on Sunday, but that didn’t matter much, as they took it to the Denver Broncos, winning it 23-3 and moving to 10-4 on the year. Denver dropped to 5-9.

There was some worry that the snow could potentially affect the Kansas City Chiefs‘ offensive game plan, but that wasn’t the case. Patrick Mahomes absolutely torched the Broncos through the air, throwing for 340 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. It was nice to see Mahomes put up some nice numbers after sort of “struggling” recently.

The run game should have been leaned on more in this game considering the weather, but Mahomes and company didn’t need to lean on them. Instead, the run game finished with 92 yards with Darwin Thompson leading the charge with 38 yards on eight carries.

Travis Kelce had a record breaking day, becoming the first tight end in NFL history to have four consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. He had a season high of 142 yards off 11 receptions and was clearly someone Mahomes was looking for throughout the game.

Tyreek Hill also had a nice game, grabbing five balls for 67 yards and finding the end zone twice. It was the first time Hill had found the end zone since week ten against the Titans, but he and Mahomes were clearly on the same page.

The defense did their part beautifully too, and many thought that might not have been what happened in this game. Denver’s offense had looked red hot lately, blowing out the Texans in Houston last week and some thought maybe Drew Lock was the difference maker there.

Yeah, no.

The Chiefs defense smothered Lock all day long and held him to 208 yards passing and picking him off once while sacking him twice and hitting him ten times. Lock looked like a rookie in this game and that was all in part of the Chiefs defense getting after him and making him uncomfortable.

In a game where it would have made sense to run the ball, the Broncos had just 52 yards rushing. They fell behind early though and that made running the ball a little trickier.

This was an impressive outing for the Kansas City Chiefs. Yes, it was against the lowly Denver Broncos, but division games are always tricky and the Chiefs didn’t falter. It would have been easy to overlook this team, but the Chiefs made them look like a 5-9 team and that’s what good teams do to bad teams.

The Chiefs move to 10-4 on the year and next week, head to Chicago for their final road game of the regular season.
