KC Chiefs: What we learned about each team in AFC West after week 14
WHAT DID WE LEARN ABOUT THE CHIEFS?
The Kansas City Chiefs are AFC West champs, that’s what we learned! They did so by knocking off the New England Patriots on their home turf by a score of 23-16. The Patriots scored on their first drive of the game and made a late push to tie things up, but in between that, their offense manufactured nothing.
The Chiefs defense faltered a bit in those aforementioned moments, but otherwise, did their job beautifully. They held Tom Brady to 169 yards passing with one touchdown and one pick while sacking him three times.
The Patriots rushing attack went for 94 yards while the receiving game only had a big performance from Julian Edelman, who had 95 yards and a touchdown off of eight receptions. Their offense looked like a shell of itself and the Chiefs helped make that look possible.
As for the Kansas City offense, they weren’t great, but they didn’t have to be. Patrick Mahomes threw for 283 yards, one touchdown, and one pick and clearly had some discomfort in his hand. Fortunately, Travis Kelce picked him up with a Wildcat rushing touchdown of his own to go along with 66 yards receiving. He had a costly fumble, but the Chiefs don’t win this game without Kelce.
The run game was ineffective, but what else is new? Darwin Thompson was used more so in the passing game (36 yards off of four receptions), but hopefully he gets utilized more in the run game because the Chiefs need help running the football.
Next up for the fourth straight AFC West champion Kansas City Chiefs is a home game against the suddenly resurgent Denver Broncos. Can the Chiefs cool off the Broncos in the early window?
