6. Third-and-19

Early on Kansas City’s first touchdown drive of the game, the Chiefs were faced with a daunting third-and-19. Mahomes dropped back and fired a bullet over the middle as he took one of the hardest hits I’ve seen him take the last two seasons. But the throw was on-target as Tyreek Hill hauled it in for 22 yards, giving the Chiefs a new set of downs that they wouldn’t waste.

7. You Shall Not (K-) Pass!

I love blocked kicks. They are so exciting. This one got me up and out of my seat and hollering. With the Patriots looking to take a seven-point lead in the first quarter, Tanoh Kpassagnon burst through New England’s line to block Nick Folk‘s 41-yard field goal attempt. You could feel the momentum shift with that huge play.

8. Trickery, Part I

At first, I didn’t like the looks of it when the Chiefs lined up in the Wildcat formation with Travis Kelce taking the direct snap on third-and-goal in the second quarter. But Kelce read the defense perfectly and snaked his way into the end zone to put the Chiefs up 16-7 before the extra point.

9. Butker

Won’t go as far as calling Harrison Butker the best kicker in the league, but when kickers are missing kicks at a record-rate, it’s sure nice to have a guy like Butker. He struggled a bit in the early goings of the season, but he’s been automatic for a while now, nailing 13 of his last 14 field goal attempts and all 10 of his most recent extra point attempts.

For the season, he’s 28 for 32 on field goals with a long of 54, and 39 for 41 on extra points.

10. Other Skill Players

Recently, KC Kingdom site expert Leigh Oleszczak wrote about the lack of production at the wide receiver position aside from Hill, and I couldn’t agree more. Thankfully, those guys got back into play against the Patriots.

Sammy Watkins had four catches on eight targets for 50 yards. Hardman caught his only target, the aforementioned 48-yard touchdown pass to put the Chiefs up for good. Byron Pringle caught his only target for a 14-yard gain. And Demarcus Robinson caught one of his two targets for 12 yards.

11. Spoiled Little Brats

Listen, I get it. The New England Patriots are great. Since Tom Brady took over for Drew Bledsoe, the Patriots are a dynasty, and the top one at that. Still, you’ve gotta be kidding me with their fans booing them off the field at half time.

Booing the defending Super Bowl champions who entered the game with a 10-2 record because they’re down 17-7 at half time? Get outta here with that, Boston. That’s pathetic.

I’m a well-known critic of saying any team deserves any particular outcome. The Chiefs didn’t deserve to win this game and the Patriots didn’t deserve to lose it. But I’m thisclose to feeling that the Patriots fans deserved the Patriots to lose against the Chiefs.

But, hey: as a Chiefs fan, I’ll take it.
