Kansas City Chiefs: Reasons to be thankful in 2019
Kansas City Chiefs fans love their team and have a lot of reasons to be thankful for their favorite football team this year.
Happy Thanksgiving, Chiefs Kingdom!
While the 2019 season hasn’t gone quite how we all expected it to, there are still plenty of reasons for why Kansas City Chiefs fans should be thankful. Let’s take a look at some reasons as to why we should give thanks to the Chiefs.
CONSISTENTLY WINNING
Some of the losses this year have been tough, I get it, but the Chiefs have been one of the most winningest teams in the NFL over the last few years. The last time Kansas City had a losing record was back in 2012, which was the worst season in franchise history.
Since then, the Chiefs have gone 11-5, 9-7, 11-5, 12-4, 10-6, and 12-4 and only missed the playoffs in that 9-7 season back in 2014. Even then it came down to the wire for the Chiefs.
As you can see from Field Yates’ tweet above, the Chiefs are the third most winningest team in the NFL. No one comes close to New England’s 19 straight winning seasons, but the Chiefs’ six consecutive is still impressive, especially considering how inconsistent they were prior to 2013.

IMPROVING DEFENSE
Last year, it was without a doubt the defense’s fault for why the Chiefs failed to get to the Super Bowl. While it hasn’t all been rainbows and smiles defensively this year, the unit has improved, especially in the secondary.
The Chiefs sit in the top half of the league in pass defense (no that’s not a lie) and while their run defense could still use some help, we all asked for even just a mediocre defense moving forward. We’re starting to see the turnaround.
OAKLAND LOSING TO THE JETS (LOL)
This weekend’s game against Oakland could have been a lot more meaningful had the Raiders been able to take care of business against the Jets. Not only did Oakland lose to the Jets, they got the doors blown off of them by a team that had been struggling for the most part this year.
While this is certainly a petty answer, do Chiefs fans care about looking petty when it comes to the Raiders? The answer is no. No, they don’t.
PATRICK MAHOMES
By far the biggest reason for Chiefs Kingdom to be thankful is the reigning MVP himself, Patrick Mahomes. Yes, Mahomes is coming off arguably the worst start of his career, but the Chiefs still got the W and Mahomes started to look better in the second half.
With a weaker schedule (sans the New England game), Mahomes should be able to turn heads like he did all of last year.
Why are you thankful this year, Chiefs fans?
