Royals Rumors: Tim Hill getting interest on trade market
Royals rumors continue on throughout Thanksgiving with the latest name getting some buzz being relief pitcher Tim Hill.
Mark Feinsand tweeted on Wednesday that Kansas City Royals reliever Tim Hill is drawing interest on the trade market. He mentioned in that tweet that the Yankees were definitely interested in adding Hill.
With the Royals still in rebuild mode and looking to add pieces where they can get them, trading Hill makes a lot of sense. As Feinsand noted in his tweet, Hill turns 30 years old before the 2020 season will get underway.
Hill is coming off a really good 2019 campaign and his value might not be this high ever again. The Royals should take what they can get in exchange for him now and the Yankees would be a great trade partner with how strong their farm system is.
Hill has only spent two seasons in the major leagues, both with the Royals. This past year he finished with a 3.63 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 39 strikeouts in 39.2 innings. He pitched in 46 games and was one of the Royals’ best relievers this past season.

The year before wasn’t as good for Hill, but that was his first year as a pro. He had an ERA over 4 that year through 45.2 innings. There was a lot of hope for Hill coming into 2019 and he delivered, and now he looks to be an attractive option to flip for prospects before the 2020 season begins.
Most Royals rumors are going to surround Whit Merrifield this offseason, but trading Hill makes perfect sense given his age and affordable contract. He’s not a young player, but probably has a few good years left in the tank. Relievers tend to dip off in their early to mid 30s, so it’d be best for the Royals to get what they can for Tim Hill now.
If the Royals want to add prospects to help them compete sooner, they need to strongly consider flipping players before the 2020 season and the only reason to really keep Hill is if they want to try and get more from him at the trade deadline. The only problem there is he could regress in 2020 and lose value.
The 2020 season might not be full of wins, but fans aren’t expecting a bunch. That’s why trading Tim Hill for some players who can help this team contend for a World Series again is what’s best for the organization moving forward.
