Kansas City Chiefs: Raiders game has less riding on it after week 12
It looked like the stage would be set for week 13 when the Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Oakland Raiders. It was looking like it’d be two 7-4 teams battling it out for the division, but that’s not the case anymore.
The Raiders can’t set up the script correctly, can they? After Kansas City Chiefs fans constantly heard people crowning the Raiders as the best team in the AFC West, everyone saw for themselves how ludicrous that was after this weekend.
The Raiders played the New York Jets on the road and were three point favorites. They wound up losing by 31 points to the freaking JETS. The J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets!
Had the Raiders done what they were supposed to do and beaten the Jets, they’d have matched the Chiefs’ 7-4 record and would be playing for the division come week 13. It’s still an important game for both sides, but there’s not as much riding on it after Oakland got housed by the Jets.

Now that Oakland is 6-5, they’re a game behind the Chiefs, but also lost the first match-up back in September. If they lose to KC again this weekend, it’d be very hard to come from behind and somehow still win the AFC West over a team that has swept them. Essentially, this weekend is do or die for the Raiders when it comes to their hopes of winning the division.
For Kansas City, this isn’t a game to sleep on. Don’t do what the Raiders did last week by sleeping on their week 12 opponent because they were looking ahead to the game at Arrowhead. After week 13, the Chiefs will have the Patriots on the road, and it’d be easy for them to brush off the Raiders and think about that week 14 match-up instead. Don’t do that.
Every game counts at this point and the Chiefs have their work cut out for them. They likely won’t get a bye in the playoffs, meaning they’ll have to play two good teams on the road in the playoffs if they want to get to the Super Bowl. That being said, all the Chiefs can do is win the games in front of them and hope a team ahead of them slips up.
The Raiders will be hoping for the same thing this weekend when they come to Arrowhead, but a Chiefs loss wouldn’t be as detrimental as it would have been had Oakland taken care of business against the Jets.
