Kansas football will not be going to a bowl game in their first year under Les Miles, but that doesn’t mean these final two games are a complete wash. The Jayhawks can still try to ruin someone else’s season.

Kansas football fans weren’t exactly thinking a bowl game was on the table this season, but the Jayhawks have looked more competitive this year than they had in years past. Les Miles put this team in a good position to win a few games, but the team didn’t completely come through.

Take that loss to Texas for example. If just one more thing goes KU’s way, they knock off a ranked opponent on the road in the biggest win for Kansas football in over a decade. Instead, they lost that one and probably won’t win another game in 2019.

Currently sitting at 3-7, even winning out wouldn’t put the Jayhawks in bowl game eligibility, so they’ll have to settle on playing spoiler to their next two opponents, Iowa State and Baylor.

More from Kansas Jayhawks

Both of these teams have quite a bit on the line; They’re both ranked for one and Baylor in particular could be a participant in a big name bowl game if they win out this season.

KU gets 22nd ranked Iowa State on the road this weekend in a game in which they’re 24.5 point underdogs. The Cyclones haven’t been the team that many thought they’d be this year, so while it’s unlikely Kansas goes into Ames and leaves with a victory, there’s a reason teams play the games.

As for the Baylor match-up, it’ll take place in Lawrence next week for Senior Day for the Jayhawks. Baylor is currently the 14th ranked team in the country and had Oklahoma on the ropes before blowing their 28-3 lead (RE Atlanta Falcons) and losing.

I know Baylor is the higher ranked team, but if Kansas was going to play spoiler to one of these two teams, my vote would be against the Bears. It’d be in Lawrence and against a team that has just one loss, but has played in a lot of tight games and doesn’t always perform all that well in them. A good game plan by Les Miles here could result in a mega shocker for the college football universe.

While I don’t see the Kansas Jayhawks winning either of these two games, trying to ruin one of the other two teams’ seasons should be enough to play for at this point of the year. Hopefully KU can pull out all the stops and win at least one of these games, if not both (highly unlikely).
